Laundry In the News: Dryer Causes Fire in Tennessee

Chattanooga, Tennessee: A load of laundry placed in the dryer at 11 p.m. as the family headed to bed caused a fire that destroyed much of the home, the owner’s belongings and caused the death of a family pet. Thanks to a working smoke alarm, the family escaped with no injuries.

How many of us have done the same thing? Laundry room fires are fairly common if the dryer is not routinely cleaned and maintained. It is also important to not leave washers and dryers running when we leave home. Washer hoses can burst and lint in filters and ducts can catch fire.

Our laundry appliances are wonderful machines but they do need human supervision.
